So I noticed that the Astro Boy Movie listings on Amazon recently updated. Looks like we have our box art.
It's a lot brighter and cheerier looking than any of the North American movie posters. This sort of thing seems to happen all the time when animated movies go from theater to home video. Witness TMNT's dark theatrical poster with angry expressions and compare that to the wacky DVD cover. This cover at least uses the same art as the main poster but the new color scheme evokes a different mood. Let the complaints begin, I guess.
Anyway, I'm going to buy it, you're going to buy it, so it doesn't really matter. I like blue, so I suppose it looks cool enough.

It's great the box uses a quote from a movie critic, but why the heck didn't Summit quote movie critics when releasing the film? Roger Ebert liked the movie - everyone knows who he is, right? So why not use a quote from him? And why wasn't there any mention that Imagi also made Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which would have given it more recognition and cred with the audience (who otherwise might not have known who the heck Imagi was). What IS it with Summit? Does it have to sabotage ALL its films (except Twilight of course - which is indestructible).
Well, it looks like there are no extras on the Blu-Ray or DVD, right?
No word on extras yet. I seriously doubt there would be nothing, but we'll see. I hope yet get something!
Sayonara.
For so long I've been expecting we'd get the boring poster showing every character imaginable from the film, that seeing something different is almost kind of a relief. Light blue also matches well with the optimistic future look of Astro Boy in general. I'm also glad there's a slipcover. Too bad they stuck a quote on there though.
Man, I just realized... that ugly quote on the front is going to look even worse in Canada, where a French translation will be shoehorned in there too! Ugh...
Sayonara.
I import all my movies from the US for this very reason. ;) Also means I won't get the interesting French dub (interesting because the English actors really weren't too good), since this is a Summit release. My mom will be mildly disappointed but otherwise we'll be fine.
