Astro Boy Landing This Month

The animated Astro Boy movie will be coming home very soon as the film will be released on DVD and Blu Ray in North America on March 16th.

IGN has a more detailed listing of the deleted scenes and featurettes included as bonus features. They are:
-- "Astro vs. The Junkyard Pirates" Animated Sequence
-- "The RRF In: The New Recruit" Animated Sequence
-- "Designing A Hero" featurette
-- "Building Metro City" featurette
-- "Getting The Astro Boy Look" featurette
-- "Inside the Recording Booth" featurette with the all-star cast
-- Astro Boy Image Gallery: Creating a Global Icon
That actually seems pretty good! Still disappointed over the lack of director's commentary, but all things considered it looks like a solid release.

Remember you can order the DVD or Blu Ray from Amazon.com and help support AstroBoyWorld in the process.

  1. The image gallery has a lot of potential. I hope to see lots of pictures from the manga, anime, merchandise and advertising throughout the years, as well as for the movie of course.

I remember first reports of the features including deleted scenes and new animated sequences. This list makes it seem like both are one and the same, hope not...

  2. In one of the Astro Boy movie novelizations, there is a scene where some kind of junkyard monsters attack the kids and Astro saves them - a scene that didn't appear in the film. I hope the Junkyard Pirates sequence isn't that one, but we'll see. Anyway, the features sound decent, and I'll definitely be getting the DVD.

  3. There's a sequence in the video game where Astro fights two guys called the Scorpion Brothers in the Junkyard. I wonder if that has something to do with it.

    Sayonara.

  4. The junkyard monster also appear in the comic adaptation as well. I think it would have been better to keep this scene in the movie for more action.

I wanna watch the "Getting The Astro Boy Look" featurette to see how many iteration and designs they came up with for Astro. I remember seeing early pictures and footage of Astro that is different from the final design. I hope the Image gallery will also include concept art and production design material.

  5. The Junkyard Pirates are featured in the game (they're in the comic too? i need to see that! o.o) guessing how the game nearly followed the movie line by line WE can at least get an idea of how it'll play out.

As for the The RRF New Recruit, it must be that golden tooth robot that gets a scene, because he is very breifly seen in the movie when Zog is walking past the other contestants (he's on the right of the screen when that coast is speaking about 'NO MERCY!' to his bot.

I wish i could have the dvd on March 16th. but i'm in England, so I think i gotta wait a couple of months yet...*bursts into tears*

  6. It looks like it's going to be a good DVD. Disc Dish did a review of it and said the special features are good. http://tinyurl.com/yduu3mg
