Animated Oscar Race Heats Up.

For the first time in the history of the award, 20 films are being submitted for contention for the Best Animated Feature at the Academy Awards. The Astro Boy movie is one of them!

Even though the odds of being among the final nominees is slim with such a huge range of quality animated films this year, it's still a great thing to have Astro Boy in the running at this point. If 16 films are submitted and successfully qualify as potential nominees, then there will be 5 nominees up for the award on Oscar night. Otherwise there will only be 3 nominees. Only once before has there been 5 nominees, in 2002 when Hayao Miyazaki won for Spirited Away.

Clearly, having 5 nominations is a lot better than 3. It widens the playing field and gives more exposure to more films and the medium in general. No matter what ends up happening, the Astro Boy movie has done its part to make this year's animation race very exciting. You can read more about this topic thanks to The Hollywood Reporter, The LA Times, and the Associated Press.

Damn, it'd be great if Astro Boy were nominated. It's the best animated film I've seen this year - and I've seen all of them. Curse Summit for blowing the release of this wonderful little film!

I *loved* this movie - I wish it luck with the nomination and hope being in the running garners it a bit more attention. It's turned me into a huge fan of Astro Boy, and now I'm getting into all the history and all the previous incarnations! I unfortunately can't find any foreign box office numbers for this movie, but I hope at the end of the day soundtrack, merchandise, and eventual DVD/Blu-Ray sales make this one very profitable for Imagi. They deserve it, in my opinion, and I would love to see a sequel...

Oh, I'd love to see a sequel too. I loved this movie!!!! I'm going to see it again this weekend and that'll be my 4th time! I haven't wanted to see a movie more than once since The Incredibles. I too hope this movie gets the love it deserves overseas, and on DVD. I know I want the DVD soooo bad.

Yes, I would really love to see a sequel to the Astro Boy movie; I have already watched the movie many times and I think it is very good. I would very much like the movie to win the Oscar nomination. Can someone please tell me the result of the nominations, as I did not hear very much about it.

And if you don't mind, please mind the language. :-)
