San Diego Comic Con Coverage

The Astro Boy panel at the San Diego Comic Con was early Thursday morning, opening up the first offical day of the show in a way befitting of Osamu Tezuka's legendary status, and the news is now out in full force! There were some big announcements and revelations that are making this movie seem quite intriguing!

  • There will be several "Easter Eggs" and familiar characters in the film. Osamu Tezuka himself will be a recurring character, and in the Japanese version will be voiced by Tezuka's son Makoto.
  • Astro will have his traditional appearance both when he is created (as we've seen in the teaser trailer) and in the fight at the end of the film.
  • More actors have been confirmed. Charlize Theron is narrating a movie-within-a-movie which will open up the film's futuristic setting, and in a huge surprise, Samuel L. Jackson is the voice of a robot named Zog.
  • There is a Tentacle Monster. 'Nuff said.
Here are some links I have found with coverage of the panel. Keep in mind that all of these sites were in the same place, so they all basically have the same information. Watch out for spoilers!

We're so close now to the films release, and it's great to see all of this coverage and budding awareness (wish I could have been at Comic-Con). I just hope North American audiences give the film a chance when it comes out. A lot of that will have to do with marketing and word of mouth. These amazing names attached as voice actors should help too. :]

There is a lot of positive buzz in the air over this movie right now. Can you feel it?

Yes, I also think that word of mouth will be a big deal with this film. More so than if the critics like it. Hopefully they will like it too, but they don't like a lot of cool stuff, so to Hell with them.

Sayonara.
